What Is a General Power of Attorney?
A General Power of Attorney is an official legal document, notarized by a notary public, that authorizes you to appoint one or several people — whether acting jointly or individually — to act on your behalf across all legal, commercial, and financial matters.
This power of attorney grants your agent broad authority to act as if you were present in person, including powers such as entering into contracts, buying and selling assets (excluding real estate, which requires a special POA), establishing and managing companies, receiving funds, and other legal procedures.
The General Power of Attorney is available to both UAE residents and non-residents alike — it can be notarized online via video call with a notary public licensed by Dubai Courts.
What Can Your Agent Do?
- Enter into commercial and civil contracts on your behalf
- Buy and sell movable assets (excluding real estate)
- Establish and manage companies and amend their contracts
- Receive funds and amounts due
- Open and manage bank accounts
- Represent you before government authorities and courts
- Handle government and administrative transactions
- Register companies and commercial establishments
Important Note: Given the broad authority a General Power of Attorney grants, it is strongly advised that the agent be someone you trust completely. If your needs are specific only, consider a Special Power of Attorney instead. It is also worth noting that some transactions in Dubai — such as selling real estate — may require a special POA even if you hold a general one.

Is the General POA valid for use outside the UAE?
Yes, under two conditions: first, that it explicitly states it is valid for use both inside and outside the country. Second, that it is attested by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), and where needed, by the embassy of the country where it will be used.
