Bank-Specific Authority

Power of Attorney for Bank Account Opening in Dubai

Authorize a trusted person to approach a UAE bank, submit your documents, sign the forms the bank permits and follow up on your personal bank account opening application.

The wording is prepared around the selected bank and the exact authority you want to grant. Bank approval, identity checks and attendance requirements remain subject to the bank’s own policies.

Important

Confirm the bank’s POA policy before notarization. A notarized document does not replace the bank’s KYC, compliance, eligibility or personal-attendance requirements.

What Is a Bank Account Opening Power of Attorney?

It is a special, limited POA that allows another person to assist with opening a personal bank account for you in Dubai or elsewhere in the UAE.

The representative may be authorized to visit the bank, submit the application and supporting documents, sign forms accepted by the bank and follow up with the account-opening or compliance team.

The authority should be specific. A general phrase such as “deal with banks” may not be enough. Where possible, the document should identify the bank and clearly state what the representative may and may not do.

When Is This POA Useful?

It is commonly used when the account holder is outside the UAE, travelling, unable to visit a branch, or needs a trusted person to handle documents and local follow-up.

It is also useful when the bank has already confirmed that it accepts an authorized representative and has provided its own wording or checklist.

  • You are outside the UAE and need someone to approach the bank locally.
  • You cannot attend because of travel, illness or another practical reason.
  • You want the authority limited to account opening without broad financial powers.
  • The bank has confirmed that a POA may be used for the requested account type.

Powers That Can Be Included

The document is drafted according to your instructions and the bank’s requirements. Typical powers may include:

  • Approaching the named bank and communicating with its employees.
  • Submitting an application to open a personal current, savings or other permitted account.
  • Providing passport, Emirates ID, visa, address, income and source-of-funds documents.
  • Completing and signing account-opening forms where the bank permits an agent to sign.
  • Submitting declarations and additional documents connected with the application.
  • Following up on the application until the bank issues its decision.
  • Paying an application charge or depositing an opening balance when expressly authorized and accepted.

Powers We Recommend Keeping Separate

Opening an account is different from operating it. Unless expressly required, the POA should not allow the representative to withdraw money, transfer funds, issue cheques, obtain finance, apply for credit cards, use online banking, add signatories, close the account or provide guarantees.

For ongoing management of an existing account, use a separate Banking Power of Attorney with clearly defined limits.

The Bank Still Makes the Final Decision

A notarized POA proves that you appointed the representative. It does not require the bank to open the account.

The bank may still request personal attendance, video identification, original documents, personal signatures on certain declarations, or additional KYC, tax-residency and source-of-funds evidence.

Before notarization, ask whether the bank accepts a POA, requires specific wording, expects its full legal name in the document and requires the representative to hold a UAE Emirates ID.

Personal and Company Accounts Are Different

This service is for opening a personal bank account.

A company account normally requires separate review of the trade licence, Memorandum of Association, manager or signatory authority, shareholder or board resolutions and ultimate beneficial owner information.

For a business account, use our Company Power of Attorney service.

Documents Required

Send clear copies of the following:

  • Principal’s passport, Emirates ID and UAE residence visa, if available.
  • Principal’s address, mobile number and email.
  • Representative’s passport and Emirates ID, if available.
  • Full legal name of the selected bank and branch, where relevant.
  • Type and currency of the intended account.
  • The bank’s email, wording, template or checklist, if provided.
  • A clear list of the powers the representative should receive.

How the Process Works

1

Send the principal’s and representative’s documents through WhatsApp.

2

Tell us the bank name, account type and tasks the representative must complete.

3

We review the bank instructions and prepare a limited, bank-specific draft.

4

You check the names, identification details, bank name and powers.

5

We coordinate in-person or eligible online notarization.

6

You receive the notarized POA for submission to the bank.

7

The bank completes its own compliance and eligibility review.

Online Notarization and Issuing from Abroad

Online notarization may be available when the principal meets the identity-verification and notary requirements. A valid Emirates ID, a UAE PASS-linked mobile number and a short video session may be required.

A person outside the UAE may also sign a POA for use in the UAE. Depending on the country and the bank, local notarization, authentication, UAE embassy or consulate attestation, UAE MOFA attestation and legal Arabic translation may be required.

Check the wording with the bank before signing abroad because correcting an already attested document takes additional time and cost.

Why a Special POA Is Usually Better

A special POA can identify the bank, limit the authority to opening the account, exclude withdrawals and borrowing, and end after a stated period or task.

A General Power of Attorney may contain broader financial powers than the account-opening process requires.

Common Reasons for Rejection or Delay

The bank may object when the authority to open the account is unclear, the bank name is incorrect, the wording is too general, identity details do not match, overseas attestation is incomplete, the Arabic translation is inconsistent, the document is older than the bank accepts, or personal attendance is mandatory.

Careful drafting reduces wording-related problems, but it cannot guarantee account approval.

Price and Service Terms

  • The starting price is AED 630 for in-person service and AED 1,260 for eligible online service.
  • The approved quotation covers standard POA drafting and notarization coordination.
  • Bank charges, opening deposits, translations, embassy, consular, MOFA and courier fees are not included unless stated.
  • Additional drafting fees may apply if the bank provides a special template or requests substantial amendments.
  • Completion depends on clear documents, notary approval and successful identity verification.
  • The bank’s acceptance and account-opening decision remain outside Dubai POA’s control.
